Most country-code extensions get described in adjectives. .si gets described in numbers, because Slovenia's registry (ARNES) publishes what it registers, and the venues that resell .si names keep public sale records. We collected those records into one database and measured them.
Here is what 285 tracked .si sales say — the same figures you can filter yourself on the sales index.
The headline numbers
| Measure | Value |
|---|---|
| Tracked sales | 285 |
| Median price | $2,500 |
| Average price | $4,332 |
| Largest sale | $50,000 — staffing.si, Spaceship |
The distance between the median and the average is the most useful thing on this page. A typical .si sale is around $2,500, while 26 of the 285 names clear five figures and pull the average up. If you are pricing one name, the median is the honest reference point; the average describes a market you are unlikely to be part of.
The five-figure tail is real, and it is short
Twenty-six of the 285 tracked sales cleared $10,000 — nine per cent of everything we have. These five top the range:
gifts.si— $31,346 (Fruits)hollywood.si— $30,000 (Sedo)runtime.si— $28,888 (Spaceship)pure.si— $26,868 (Fruits)stocks.si— $25,000 (Sedo)
Those five are all single dictionary words, and most of the 26 are. The exceptions are two-word names that state a market outright (southkorea.si $20,000, travelagent.si $19,995) or two-letter abbreviations (ex.si $12,000, rx.si $10,747). No invented string reaches five figures.
Where the sales happen
Venue matters more than most sellers expect, because the venue decides who is in the room:
- Sedo — 48 sales, averaging $6,178. The steady institutional channel for .si.
- Spaceship — 15 sales, averaging $10,318, including the $50,000 outlier.
- Atom — 77 sales, averaging $1,877. The busiest auction feed, and the cheapest room on the board.
- Fruits — 10 sales, averaging $12,784. Small, curated, high end.
- Private — 20 sales, averaging $3,027; and 88 sales where no venue was disclosed at all (averaging $4,577).
Read that as a map of effort, not of quality. Sedo and Atom move volume; Spaceship and Fruits produced the top of the range on a fraction of the count.
Shorter is not automatically better
The classic assumption is that price falls as length grows. Measured, .si does something messier:
| Characters | Sales | Average |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | 13 | $6,653 |
| 3 | 15 | $3,462 |
| 4 | 43 | $4,225 |
| 5 | 56 | $4,045 |
| 6 | 43 | $3,822 |
| 7 | 36 | $4,647 |
| 8 | 30 | $5,172 |
| 9 | 24 | $4,725 |
Two-letter names top the table, the averages then flatten between $3,800 and $4,300 for three to six characters, and rise again from seven to ten. The long end is mixed: southkorea.si ($20,000, 10 characters) and bankruptcy.si ($10,000) show a descriptive word can still clear five figures, while the longest strings — 12 characters and up — average under $1,000.
Length is a weak signal on its own. What the name means to a buyer with a website to launch is the strong one.
What this means if you own a .si name
Three practical conclusions:
- Anchor on the median, not the average. Anything north of $2,500 is already above half the market.
- Judge the name by its buyer, not its length. A service word with commercial intent beats a clever four-letter string.
- Pick the venue for the price you want. Volume channels clear faster; curated channels clear higher.
Sellers who want a number for a specific name can run it through the appraisal, which shows its arithmetic — comparables, length, category and extension coverage — rather than a single unexplained figure.
