How this works

Two engines: an availability check that refuses to guess, and an appraisal that shows its own arithmetic. Both are versioned — this is method v1, and it changes in public.

1 · Availability: two witnesses, not one

Witness one — the registry

We query the official rdap.register.si service (run by ARNES, Slovenia): 200 means registered, 404 means no such domain, and we also require a real RDAP error body — because under load the service can answer 404 for names that are genuinely taken.

Witness two — DNS

Two independent resolvers (Google and Cloudflare) are asked for NS and A records. Any answer at all means the name is in use or delegated, and it is never called available.

Known limit. A registered .si name with no nameservers is invisible to DNS, so DNS alone would call it free. That is exactly why both witnesses must agree, and why we still tell you to confirm at your registrar before paying.

2 · Appraisal: published rules

StepWhat we look atEffect
CategoryDictionary word, plural of a word, compound of two words, short brandable, or long-tailbase $190–$760
Length6 characters or fewer with meaning · 14+ characters×1.18 · ×0.80
FormPlural of a service word · hyphen · digit×1.10 · ×0.50 · ×0.45
Extension coverageSame string registered in .com (+10%), .ai (+12%), .io/.co/.net/.org (up to +13%)up to ×1.28
ComparablesTracked .si sales sharing the name’s opening or closing lettersup to 35% weight
OwnershipName already taken (you must buy from the owner)×0.92

The midpoint is then reported as a range of roughly 0.55× to 2.1×, because .si sales are sparse and strategic buyers behave differently from investors. Confidence rises with the number of comparables: 231 tracked sales today.

3 · Where the sales come from

  • Venue-confirmed: Atom’s weekly .si auctions and registrar-reported results — labelled verified.
  • Publicly reported: Sedo, Spaceship, Fruits and private deals published by the parties — labelled reported.
  • Never: asking prices, listing prices, or our own estimates. Those distort every market they touch.
  • Corrections: if you sold or bought a .si name and our number is wrong, tell us at [email protected] and we will fix it and say so.
Why do you publish the method at all?

Because an appraisal you cannot inspect is a sales pitch. Anyone can recompute our range from the same inputs, and a seller who disagrees with us can say exactly where.

Is this investment advice?

No. Domains are speculative assets; most names never sell. Our range describes what comparable .si names have fetched, not what yours will.

Can I use your data in my own tool?

Yes — the sales index is available as JSON (see the API page), with attribution to worthly.si. Write to us for bulk access.
