What two-letter .si domains actually sell for

Short domains are the most confidently priced and least evidenced part of this market; here is what our 234 tracked .si sales actually show, and where the sample runs out.

What two-letter .si domains actually sell for

Two-letter domains attract the most confident pricing advice in this business and the least evidence. We track .si sales — 234 of them, the largest at $50,000 — and that sample is small enough that we can be precise about what it supports and what it does not.

Two-letter names top our length table

Split every tracked sale by the length of the name and two-character names have the highest average of any bucket: $6,736 across 12 sales. That is 32% above the market-wide average of $5,085 and 87% above the median of $3,599.

It is also the bucket we trust least. Twelve sales out of 234 is about 5% of the sample, and the mean of twelve observations is a fragile object, as the next section shows.

The length table, as measured

CharactersSalesAverage
212$6,736
311$4,397
437$4,769
547$4,774
635$4,386
730$5,438
826$5,879
917$6,258
124$1,668
131$450

If short meant better, this column would descend. It does not. Two-letter names lead, three-character names average $4,397 — 13% below the market-wide average, and the middle of the table is flat between $4,400 and $4,800 from three to six characters. Only at seven characters and above do the averages climb again, which is where the descriptive business words live. Treat the 12- and 13-character rows as noise: four sales and one sale prove nothing, which is the point of printing the counts next to the averages.

What the top ten says about the ceiling

Here is the finding that matters more than the average. No two-letter name appears among our ten largest tracked sales. The tenth-largest of the whole set is $20,000 — three names tie there, all short dictionary words rather than letter pairs — and the seven above it run from $23,000 to $50,000:

  • staffing.si — $50,000 (Spaceship)
  • gifts.si — $31,346 (Fruits)
  • hollywood.si — $30,000 (Sedo)
  • runtime.si — $28,888 (Spaceship)
  • pure.si — $26,868 (Fruits)
  • stocks.si — $25,000 (Sedo)
  • healthy.si — $23,000 (Private)

Because that list is ordered by price, a two-letter .si sale at $20,000 or more would have to appear on it. None does. So the honest sentence is not "two-letter .si names sell high". It is: they sell above average, and the biggest one we can see is under $20,000 — below the single dictionary words at the top of the table.

Twelve sales is not a price

The arithmetic of a small sample deserves showing rather than asserting. The two-letter bucket's total is $80,832 across 12 sales, a mean of $6,736.

  • Remove one $20,000 result from that bucket and the mean falls to $5,530 — below the market-wide average.
  • Add one $20,000 result and the mean rises to $7,756 over 13 sales.

One transaction moves the headline by more than a thousand dollars in either direction. Those are conditional illustrations, not claims about sales we recorded; they exist to show the width of the error bar around a number with n=12. We also do not publish a median for the two-letter bucket, because the per-length medians are not in the summary we hold — a mean without a spread would be presentation, not measurement.

And the sample is not the market. Our 234 sales are every .si sale we could verify or corroborate, not every sale that happened; 87 of those records carry no venue at all, and private deals publish nothing. Every statement on this page is a statement about what is visible.

What short-name sellers should take from this

  1. Do not price from a global two-letter narrative. We hold no worldwide two-letter dataset and will not quote one. Everything here is .si, and effectively twelve transactions.
  2. Anchor on $6,736 as a starting point, not a floor. It is the best-supported figure for this bucket and it is a mean of twelve sales.
  3. Expect to hold. The largest two-letter sale we can see is under $20,000 and the entire visible market is 234 transactions. Waiting is the strategy, not a failure of one.
  4. Compete on meaning, not on length. The names at the top of our table are words a business needed, and the names we list for sale are descriptive service words such as chauffeurs, petsitting and glassrepair — not letter pairs.

The honest summary

Two-letter .si names average $6,736 across 12 tracked sales: the highest average of any length bucket, and a number built on twelve transactions with no representative in the top ten. That is real signal and thin evidence at the same time. Anyone quoting a two-letter price for a country-code extension with more confidence than that is quoting something other than data.

You can read the distribution yourself on the tracked .si sales index, or run a specific name through the appraisal and inspect the comparables and length adjustment it applies — the names we list show the same pattern from the sell side.
